The coding bootcamp was a great experience. It not only taught me the knowledge and skills needed for web development, but gave me the leg up that that I needed to change my career.

I chose to go to a coding bootcamp because I have always been interested in computer programming, but between my military duty, work, and family, I hadn’t had much time to invest into that part of my life. My military contract had recently ended, however, so I thought now was as best a time as any to dive into my interest.

I specifically chose Case Western because of the university’s accreditation and due to the fact that it was 6 months, which implied to me that this bootcamp really invested a lot more resources into the education of [its] students over many other shorter yet similar programs.

This bootcamp has definitely changed my life for the better. I now have an entirely new valuable skill set that I can employ both as a career and a hobby. It has allowed me to change career paths from one that was stagnant and monotonous, to one that is challenging, intriguing, and rewarding.

I chose to attend due to the price and reputation of the university. I’m forever grateful for what I learned and am thankful that I went through this program. I would not have been hired as fast as I was by teaching myself. This is a whole new world for me.

I chose to get into coding because I wanted/needed a career change. Coding is a growing experience. The program was very fast [paced] with constant new information that forced you to keep up and work hard. It took many hours of trial and error, googling code, and self-growth. This experience changed my life.

Before I attended the boot camp, the only analytical tools I knew were Microsoft Excel and Access. This boot camp introduced me to a whole new world and a whole new way to work with data.

Being a stay-at-home mom with a part time job for more than 10 years, I realized I need to strengthen my technical skills to re-enter the workforce. I have taken on-line classes but was not very successful, that’s why I decided to attend this boot camp for the live instructions and support.

Because of the knowledge I gained from this boot camp, I am able to return to the industry I was in, doing what I like, as if my 10+ year career gap doesn’t even exist.

In my current field of work, I am “on the other side of the fence” from the development world. I work for a financial institution as a systems engineer on the end client computing platform.  My day to day consists partially of continual engineering of the platform that our developers use to do their jobs. This alone drove an interest to pursue full-stack development, but additionally with the direction of technology in my space requiring more automation, and the need to become more variable, I see this skillset as extremely beneficial as well as something to set me apart from my peers; thus hopefully fostering unique career advancement.

I would ideally like to take this new skill set and apply it to my current job role to increase efficiency and automate various functions, as well as innovate.

For me, the most challenging part was adapting some of the unique libraries and technologies that were presented throughout the course. The core concept is there, but this was the first “bump” I came across. An example here would be various JavaScript libraries; you have a fundamental understanding of JavaScript, but understanding/adapting a unique JS library while initially only abstracting parts of it is something that takes time. The important lesson I learned here is that this is a common challenge for even seasoned developers as the industry is variable and constantly changing with new/different/better ways to do things, so it’s important to be cognizant of the fact that it may take you time to learn something.

It reinforced my opinion that you are never too old to learn something new! An important takeaway as people are often discouraged the older they get. Even though I am only 28, I think continuing education in any form is important and this was very refreshing for me as it has been some time since I’ve last sat in a classroom.

If you are passionate about technology and are willing to put in the effort, this would be a great fit for you.

The program is a great for becoming proficient in web development. The instructor and TA’s are very knowledgeable and very helpful. You can come to them for help before and after class, as well as through Slack after hours. Kim, the Student Success Manager (SSM), is awesome and truly cares about her students succeeding. The career services help you have a good resume and online presence. They also help prepare you with mock interviews and practice interview questions. At the time of this review, I have not yet gotten into seeking assistance in job placement. It’s a great program with great staff that want to help you and see you succeed.

If you decide to enter this program I recommend looking into HTML, CSS, and JavaScript ahead of class. They cover the topics well but knowing some of the stuff beforehand will definitely give you a leg up. I would definitely recommend this program to anyone looking to get into web development.
